TAKS a four letter word

TAKS is a four letter word around my house. It is the final year for this particular test. Next year, we will have the new, the improved, the probably-not-that-different STAAR. (The extra A is for Anyone's Guess) I am ready for this 2011 testing season to be over. Tomorrow I have to give the LAST administration.

My mom sent me this email which made me laugh.

Severe Weather TAKS Testing Protocol

1. Should a severe weather situation occur during testing, please remain
calm. To display any kind of anxiety would be a testing irregularity and
must be reported.

2. Please do not look out the window to watch for approaching tornadoes. You must monitor the students at all times. To do otherwise would be a testing irregularity and must be reported.

3. Should students notice an approaching tornado and begin to cry, please make every effort to protect their testing materials from the flow of tears and sinus drainage.

4. Should a flying object come through your window during testing, please make every effort to ensure that it does not land on a testing booklet or an answer sheet. Please make sure to soften the landing of the flying object so that it will not disturb the students while testing.

5. Should shards of glass from a broken window come flying into the room, have the students use their bodies to shield their testing materials so that they will not be damaged. Have plenty of gauze on hand to ensure that no one accidentally bleeds on the answer documents. Damaged answer sheets will not scan properly.

6. Should gale force winds ensue, please have everyone stuff their test booklets and answer sheets into their shirts...being very careful not to bend them because bent answer documents will not scan properly.

7. If any student gets sucked into the vortex of the funnel cloud, please make sure they mark at least one answer before departing...and of course make sure they leave their answer sheets and test booklets behind. You will have to account for those.

8. Should a funnel cloud pick you, the test administrator, you will still be required to account for all of your testing materials when you land so please take extra precautions. Remember, once you have checked them out, they should never leave your hands.

9. When rescue workers arrive to dig you out of the rubble, please make sure that they do not, at any time, look at or handle the testing materials. Once you have been treated for your injuries, you will still be responsible for checking your materials back in. Search dogs will not be allowed to sift through the rubble for lost tests...unless of course they have been through standardized test training.

10. Please do not pray should a severe weather situation arise. Your priority is to actively monitor the test and a student might mark in the wrong section if you are praying instead of monitoring. I'm sureGod will put war, world hunger, crime, and the presidential primaries on
hold until after testing is over. He knows how important this test is.

Stay at Home Wife

Being a stay at home wife for the past 2 weeks has been a huge waste of time and I have loved every minute! I know I couldn't make this my full time job, mainly because there are just not enough good movies and books to entertain myself. Here is a recap of the past 2 weeks-

First I read The Priest's Graveyard by Ted Dekker. It was given to me by a friend. I found out Ted Dekker used to sell mail order adult diapers but then his company wasn't doing well so he took up writing to make ends meet. This book was terribly disturbing and that's probably why I enjoyed it. --- If you like taking justice into your own hands (which I do) then you will love this books:
Next I moved onto something less damaging to psyche. Karen Kingsbury is a very talented writer and I fell in love with this very flawed family . These 3 series were very quick reads.

Next came all the movies. When Dondi was here in December she used my Hastings card to get all the Harry Potters and office seasons. She turned the movies in early so I had 6 free movie credits at Hastings. I went through the store and got movies that Chris would not like. That was pretty much the only criteria for picking movies. This is what I came up with:

Anyways It has been a fun couple of weeks. I have never had a summer off before so I'm a little new at all this. Anyways I have EAT, PRAY, LOVE on my DVR so I think I might go watch that.

Someone had a great idea to have everyones birthday when the Hendricks were down this last weekend. We had a huge cookout. Steak, Chicken, Shrimpand a ton of appetizers. I made my cousin Tanners jalapeno things.

At the Prather's house they call bacon wrapped jalapeno Rats so Chris named these Rat Tails.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground pork sausage
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 pound large fresh jalapeno peppers, halved lengthwise and seeded

Direction

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).Place sausage in a skillet over medium heat, and cookuntil evenly brown. Drain grease. In a bowl, mix the sausage, cream cheese, and Parmesan cheese. Spoon about 1 tablespoon sausage mixture into each jalapeno half. Arrange stuffed halves in baking dishes.Bake 20 minutes in the preheated oven, until bubbly and lightly browned.
