Girl Scout Camping Weekend

On Thursday Caroline volunteered at Critterfest with her girl scout troop.  She was the chick expert and helped lots of people hold and handle the chicks.  One daisy wasn't able to make it so Ali got to have her own basket.  She was surprisingly gentle and helpful!

After their 3 hour shift the girls got their face painted.  Caroline went with a Zebra eye and Ali decided she needed a butterfly.

Friday morning we took a day trip to Roaring Springs with my friend Kristen and her family.

The pool is spring feed and so cold.  Luckily it 100 degrees by lunch so the water felt amazing.

Caroline has gone most of the summer without a floaty.  She really needs it for deeper water because she is not strong enough to stay afloat.

I loved going to Roaring Springs with Kristen we had such a fun time!  We drove back home in the afternoon.  I dropped Ali off and then Caroline and I headed to Camp Kiwanis for Mother/ Daughter weekend. A lot of Caroline's troop signed up too so we got to share a cabin with a lot of her friends.  Fun Fact: Dondi and I went to Camp Kiwanis as kids.  Most of it is very much the same.

Caroline and I had a great time.  We sang all the silly songs and played ridiculous games the first night. The camp is under a burn ban so we had our campfire in the main lodge with the fire place.

I thought we would stay in the tents but we ended up in the cabins.  It was SO hot all night.  I wish it would have been in the tents because maybe a breeze would have helped the situation.  Caroline ended up in her sleeping bag on the concrete ground.

In the middle of the night Caroline woke up needing to go to the bathroom. We got our shoes and flashlight and headed to the bathroom.  On the way down the trail we heard a loud BOOM! I didn't have any idea what it was but Caroline still needed to go so we trekked on. On the way back a staff worker stopped us and very nonchalantly "hey, one of the staffers found a large rattle snake and they had to shoot it.  Would you let your cabin know?".  Caroline looked concerned and we picked up our pace to the cabin. We spent the next 30 minutes quietly discussing snakes.  We decided to not wake everyone up about the snake news and just tell them in the morning.

Caroline earned the nick name slip and slide because she fell 3 times on this trails. (not hard) she got up laughing each time. She was really proud of the nick name!

Breakfast was really great!

Helping wash our dishes

Making rockets

Our rocket didn't go very high but it was a fun

Then we went on a hike

Caroline with a few of her friends

We hiked to signature rock.  Signature rock is made of sandstone so with a little pressure and water Caroline (along with hundreds of other signatures) was able to write CP in the rock.

Then during craft time we made a bird house.

During lunch Caroline ate 4 helpings of ranch style beans and she kept saying "These beans are so good!" Growing up my family ate ranch style beans with everything.  I'm pretty sure I have never served these to her.  I'm not sure why- like an idiot I have made beans in the crock pot or on the stove when all she wanted was $1 ranch style beans right out of the can.

Caroline had a really great experience at camp and wants to go back next summer on her own.  They have a really fun 3 day horse camp her and her friend want to do together.

Canada

Chris and I spent a few days in Vancouver Canada. My parents and Chris's Parents took turns taking care of the girls which was much appreciated.  They had a great time! My mom calls it: Cousin Camp
Swimming

Golfing

Helping grandad

Swimming in the hot tub

Helping my mom work

100's of games of Skip Bo

Rosa's

Watching The Incredibles II.

Ali Loved it!

Matching Girls!

I loved getting updates and knew they were in great hands.  I on the other hand did a terrible job of taking pictures.  When I don't have the kids with me I guess I kind of forget!  Chris did a better job: Here are a few from our trip:

Stanley Park

A fallen tree

totem poles

Chris eating tuna.  He hasn't always loved seafood but has found a lot of things he actually likes.

The Aquarium in Stanley Park

The 2010 Olympic Caldron.

A really great Mexican food restraunt

bike riding

Lion's Gate Bridge

Capilano suspension bridge stands 230 feet above the water and is 450 feet long.  There were tons of hiking trails on the other side of this bridge.

Just an owl hanging out.

Steam clock in Gastown

Canadians had a hard time understanding me.  The Starbucks barista could not get "Kylie" . Eileen is probably the closest they got.  Chris was reading that 52% of Vancouver speaks English as a 2nd language.

We had a really great time!
