Charleston SC

Chris and I went to Charleston, South Carolina for our 15th anniversary. This was such a neat place to visit. Shout out to Nana & Papaw for entertaining our children for a few days.
Chris got a hotel in the historic district of Charleston.  It was in walking distance of everything. Our plane landed around lunch on Wednesday.  It was great we got half a day start to see the city.
The first thing we did was a carriage ride. The guide on our tour was very informative.  She was a school counselor 6 years ago and came to Charleston to do carriage tours for a summer and loved it so much she stayed.

After the tour I had a better understanding how everything was laid out where we were staying.

I took a few pictures of some of things she showed us but I was mainly impressed by the preservation of these homes, churches and government buildings.  It seems like all of them had been destroyed by fires, earthquakes, hurricanes & war.  One church has been built 3 times.  I saw tons of old graveyards with headstones dating to 1600's.

On Thursday morning we went to Magnolia Plantation.  There are amazing gardens.  Chris and I were one of the first people there and had the gardens mostly to ourselves.  This also meant we cleared all the spider webs on the walking paths.  I walked to about 20 spider webs with spiders about 6 inches long.  Tons of signage about "do not approach alligators" nothing about spiders everywhere.

Chris got some great pictures of the garden

I took a picture of a giant crepe myrtle for Beverly
We had lunch at the plantation.

After the plantation & lunch we saw rainbow row and the battery

For our anniversary dinner we got reservation to Hall Chophouse.  To say this place is amazing is an understatement. Chris wrote his first google review because of how great the food and service was.

Couple of kids

Thursday night we did a ghost tour.  Our tour guide was a history professor at Collage of Charleston.  He was very into the tour.  I enjoyed it!

It was interesting to learn about some of the history of Charleston.

This is Philadelphia street where a lot of duals took place in the 1700s.

Friday morning we ate brunch at Poogan's Porch

It was this cute little house close to our hotel that served good breakfast food.

After brunch we went to Patriots Point Navel Museum.  I didn't get a good full view picture of the ship so here is one from the website.

The whole thing was well mapped out.

There were 4 self guided tours. The first one was all about solders living on the boat.  Above is a recipe for 10,000 Chocolate chip cookies

The next tour took us up top to see the airplanes and where they took off.  The 3rd and 4th where more of the operations of the ship.

I didn't get any pictures but there was also a set up on land called the Vietnam war experience near the boat.  I thought it was interesting.

Chris and I ate dinner at the Salty Cowboy.  A lot of people say they see dolphins from their table but from we were we didn't see any.

Saturday morning we went to a farmer's market across the street from our hotel.  There were tons of great vendors.

Saturday afternoon we went to Fort Sumter

This is they only way to see the fort.  The boat ride was 30 minutes over there.  The park rangers let us spend about an hour at the fort and then they brought us back.

Saturday night we went to a restaurant named Husk.  Another must eat.

Chris and I are still talking about their cornbread.
After dinner I made a reservation for a coffee shop called Pounce.  This unique coffee shop has 15- 20 cats that are up for adoption.  The shelter in Charleston spays/ neuters stray kitty cats and then to socialize the cats they send them to this coffee shop.

I took an embarrassing amount of pictures.  Chris and I both walked away after an hour with huge smiles on our faces.

Chris is an expert

Since December 2016 they have adopted over 1600 kitty cats.  It was really fun.

Saturday morning we went to see the Angel Tree on John's island.  It is said to be anywhere from 400-500 years old.  I couldn't get a good picture of it because they randomly closed the gates but it was interesting to see.

On the way to the airport we stopped at a tea farm.  I LOVE green tea and Chris  LOVES black tea.  We sampled tea and went on a plant tour.

It was just such a fun trip. I can't wait to go back (maybe in March or November when it is not so hot)
