We celebrated July 4th with family. Starting this morning Chris, Jacee and I took Caroline to see the 4th on Broadway parade. If you want to get really good seats you have to bring your lawn chairs and be there by 8:00. We did not get there by 8 but found a nice curb behind the early risers.
Caroline found a really good seat on her daddy's shoulders so she didn't care where we ended up. Before the parade started she talked about seeing a horse. This was VERY important to her. So much so that while we were waiting she grabbed her daddy's face with both hands and asked "Where are the horses?" in a serious tone. This made Jacee and I laugh uncontrollably. Chris, like the good dad he is, said "lets walk a little to see if we can find them.". By the time they return we started to see the first set of police cars.
and wouldn't you know it -HORSES!!! Her aunt Kelley must be rubbing off on her because she could get enough of that horsey action. She also really liked the red firetruck and the green tractor.
After the parade we got to partake in the street fair and all its fine foods. We started off with a roasted corn. Jacee and I had to stand in line for a good 10 minutes but we both agreed it was worth the wait.
Corn we decided was the appetizer so I got a good ole' fashion Frito pie- the kind with the melted cheese and real homemade chilli for lunch! Jacee settle on a sausage wrap. Caroline ate a lunch-able and kettle corn for dessert. We listened to the live bands for a bit but knew Caroline would need to get home for a nap soon. No need to push our luck it had been a great day.
After nap Caroline and I picked up sparklers and poppers from a fireworks stand right outside the city. They were out of almost everything so they threw in a ton of things for free.
Nana, Papaw and Mimi had us over for dinner and when we got there Papaw had put together a playhouse for the grandkids! I know there will be hours and hours of fun in store for this house. Caroline broke in by having a tea party.
Papaw grilled rats, hamburgers and hotdogs while Kelley made a fruit pizza into the American flag. She is so creative! Nana made her famous homemade Grapenut ice cream too!
After dinner Nana got severed tea and rocked 2 baby dolls to sleep.
The sparklers were a huge hit for Caroline. She really wanted to blow them out like a candle. We explained that it would burn her lips off so she held off but you could see in her eyes she still wanted to do it.
We had a really fun day celebrating. Glad Chris got the day off today and the good news is we still have a WHOLE weekend with the family!
